The sewers of Manhattan are designed underground, and when the hot water from these sewers meets the cold air, the resulting steam brings a sense of romance as it emerges onto the streets. You might have seen this steam in New York movies or dramas; it adds to the charm of the city. This photo was taken as I was exiting the subway on my way to Bloomingdale's, where the steam was thick and beautifully formed, prompting me to quickly grab my camera. Although the picture was actually taken in April 2024, I edited it to give it a retro vintage feel, reminiscent of New York in the 70s and 80s. The steam in the photo maximizes both romance and sentiment, making it a very satisfying image.
